The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the relevant knowledge, skill and competence to work in a range of industry sectors independently in a supervisory capacity.

Maternity Care Support 5N3746 is an accredited module [www.qqi.ie] designed to equip learners with the skills, knowledge and interpersonal skills required to assist the midwife in caring for mothers, babies, and the family unit.
Learners who successfully complete this module will:
Acquire the practical skills appropriate to the maternity care setting.
Work effectively as part of the maternity care team.
Develop an awareness of the needs of mothers, babies and the family unit.
Develop personally, according to the demands of the maternity health care attendant role.

The module aims to equip the learner with the knowledge, skills and competence to enhance the quality of life of the older person and enable the learner to develop an understanding of the concepts of ageing from the physical, psychological and societal perspective and to address the needs of the older person in a dignified, inclusive and holistic manner.
Objectives of the Programme Module
To develop a comprehensive understanding of the concepts of the ageing process and recognise a range of factors that might contribute to physical and psychological decline.
To facilitate the learner in gaining an insight into the pathological changes that can occur in adulthood and ageing.
To enable the learner to explore and examine their personal and societal attitudes towards the older person and examine important issues associated with an ageing society.
To explore and evaluate care provision for the older person nationally and internationally to include services and entitlements available that help and promote discovery, opportunities and independent living for the older person.
To assist the learner in identifying the importance of providing emotional support through ageing, death and dying.
To assist the learner to develop the academic and vocational language, literacy and numeracy skills related to Gerontology 6N3748 through the medium of the indicative content
To enable the learner to exercise substantial personal autonomy and responsibility.

Do you wish to become an accredited trainer?
The QQI Level 6 course is an ideal course for those who wish to acquire the knowledge, skill and competence to identify training needs, and design training programmes. It consists of two modules:
- Training Delivery & Evaluation (6N3326)
- Training Needs Identification and Design (6N3325)
On successful completion of both modules, you will be awarded a QQI Level 6 Special Purpose Award in Training and Development [6S3372]
The training approach is highly interactive with practical skills demonstrations, role play, keeping learner records and producing a tailored project as part of the assessment criteria.
The two module course, leading to a full award is delivered over five days. The overall duration of the course is approximately 150 hours. Attendance is over 35 hours, with 75 hours of self-directed study time and tutor supported online learning and 40 hours of practice time, preparation and reflection. Delivery

This programme module will provide the learner with the relevant knowledge, skill and competence to work independently in a supervisory management capacity in a variety of sectors.
Objectives of the Programme Module
To develop a comprehensive understanding of the role, duties and responsibilities of a supervisory manager in the modern workplace.
To facilitate learners to appreciate the importance of developing and implementing quality systems, procedures and standards within an organisation based on industry standards, recommended practice and statutory compliance.
To enable an understanding of the recruitment and employment process, including evaluation of need, resource planning, sourcing, screening and evaluation of candidate suitability.
To assist the learner in developing an appreciation of the risks, liability and importance of adequate insurance cover.
To develop an appreciation for the concepts and theories;
importance of and practical skills to devise and maintain departmental budgets and operational records, rosters and maintenance schedules.
To create an awareness of modern staff training and development including needs assessment and feedback, and selection and use of a variety of training methods, supporting aids and materials.

COMPLAINTS & APPEALS POLICY
Complaints and appeals are managed fairly, efficiently and effectively. Education and Training Focus creates an environment where clients or learners’ views are valued. Any person wishing to make a complaint against Education and Training Focus, concerning its conduct as a Training Provider, or an appeal regarding an Assessment decision, shall have access to the complaints and appeals procedure.
All formal complaints and appeals will be heard and decided on within 15 working days of receiving the written complaint or appeal. Any substantiated complaints will be reviewed as part of the continuous improvement procedure.
PROCEDURE
Complaints arise when a client or learner is dissatisfied with an aspect of Education and Training Focus’ services and requires action to be taken to resolve the matter. Appeals arise when a client or learner is not satisfied with a decision made by Education and Training Focus. Appeals can relate to assessment decisions, but they can also relate to other decisions.
Persons with either a complaint or an appeal have access to the following procedures:
INFORMAL COMPLAINT (OR FEEDBACK)
The initial stage of any complaint (or feedback) shall be for the client or learner to communicate directly with Education and Training Focus Staff, Tutors, or the Director. Clients or Learners dissatisfied with the response to the informal feedback or complaint may initiate a formal complaint.
FORMAL COMPLAINT OR APPEAL
The informal complaint procedure should be used first. Formal complaint / appeal forms are available from administration, all completed forms are to be lodged with administration, and then forwarded to the Director. All information will be kept strictly confidential.
An acknowledgement letter is to be forwarded to the applicant upon receipt of the complaint. The Director will at this point organise a meeting with the complainant to discuss their concerns. The student/client may be accompanied be one other person as support or as representation. Both parties; the student/client and the relevant staff member shall be given an opportunity to present their case to the Director. Students/clients will receive an outcome statement within 5 working days of making its decision. In consultation if an amicable result cannot be achieved, the student/client may access 3rd party intervention. Assessment appeals are dealt with through our Assessment Regulations and Appeals Policy, please refer to this policy if an appeal is being made regarding examination or assessment results.
